Local Schools Individual Champs
Sunday 23rd August saw a wonderful turnout at Holly Farm, near Marton on Red Kiwi Orienteering Club's brand new map.
Over 60 children from schools ranging from Whanganui High School, to Pahiatua School had entered the Champs. The races began in wind and rain for the first half hour but most of the children still headed off over the farmland. Once they were down the side of the hill, they were away from the the wind and the rain stopped.
Courses were spot on for length with the Primary Course winner supposed to take between 15 and 20 minutes. Liam Harris won the boys race in 17 minutes and 40 seconds. The girls were a little slower, with Elise Andrews coming in in 24:08.
The Year 7/8 courses with an expected winning time of 20-25 minutes were won by Annabelle Transom in 23:26 in the girls race and Cameron Gloyn in 20:13 in the boys.
Junior Secondary Girls with an aim of 30-35 minutes was won by Sophie Gloyn in 31:30. In the Junior Secondary Boys, first was Hugo Skerman, who blizted his run in 27:11.
We didn't have a prize giving, as the field was a little too spread out, but Certificates will be delivered to schools this week.
Next up on the list is the Schools Teams Champs, which is a Rogaine. Entries closing on Friday 28th August. This will be repeated in the early evening by a Dusk to Dark Rogaine using the same maps. See the events tab for details.
