Postponement of 2 x2 2 Relay and 50th Birthday

Published Fri 06 Nov 2026

Hi all Orienteers,

Red Kiwi Orienteering Club has reluctantly decided to postpone our 2 x 2 relay to sometime early next year as well as Red Kiwi's 50th birthday celebrations.

The reasons for these decisions are multifactorial.  Even though the closing date for the Relay is 3 nights away we don't yet have enough entries as yet to know that it would be worthwhile to put the event on, and we would rather let the few who have entered have time to replan their weekend of 15th November. As it turns out, Hawkes bay is having their 50th Anniversary Celebrations the same weekend, and we know some of our key guests/participants are attending that event. The PokapÅ« Champs are the following weekend, having been delayed due to the fierce February storm damage to our forests. That event should be great and will hopefully be well attended.

Some of our members are away on conferences and were not going to be able to attend either the event or the Birthday Celebrations which was very disappointing for them.  Other members will be in the thick of exams!

Those more senior members who have retired from orientering who were planning to come to the birthday- we are sorry, and hope that you will be able to attend when we reschedule the date.

We still have the prizes, and the courses planned to run the event when we can, but will also refund any entry fees paid.

There is a special event in the Wairarapa on 29th November- the Wayne Cretney Classic.  Look it up on the ONZ website, so there is no lack of orienteering around.

Keep and eye out for our replacement event and schedule in our AGM on Friday 4th December!
