School students from across the Manawatu, and as far as Whanganui, Pahiatua and Levin competed last Friday at Massey University in the second of our one hour Rogaines. Teams of 3-5 had to plan their routes to gain as many points as possible. Primary School children were in a limited area and had 45 minutes, and all the rest of the teams had 60. There was very high interest in the Years 5/6 and 7/8 students, with less of a showing from secondary school students. This was in part due to it being Tournament Week. We hope to run the event earlier in the year in 2027, to enable more secondary students to attend.  

Some of the year 7/8 students then travelled to Tauranga to compete in the Sprint and Rogaine events in the AIMs games, with some very creditable performances from Red Kiwi members.

Next up is a Training Day on Sunday 11th October. Head over to our events page for details. This day will cater for all levels from competent White (easy) orienteers, up to and including Red (hard) level orienteers. The day is free to members of any Orienteering club. Malcolm and Gillian Ingham, both very experienced orienteers will be leading the training, helped by some of our more experienced club members.

Sunday 15th November (note change of date) will be Red Kiwi Orienteering Club's 50th Birthday celebration. We will be having a really fun '2 x 2 Relay' at Waiterere, using the Prickly Sands map and one of the village. The event will involve teams of 2 each running 2 short courses apart from White level orienteers who will have their own course. We plan on having excellent prizes for all sorts of categories, as well as a social barbecue, old time photos etc and of course birthday cake! Once again, details will be posted on the Events page and updated as the time gets closer.
