This event spanned the Australian and New Zealand Secondary Schools challenge which was held mid week and open to all other competitors as well after the school children had had their races, so some of us had 7 days of orienteering over 9 days.T

The weather had suddenly warmed up and sufficient fluid intake was really important.  Great experience orienteering in a variety of terrain, with lots of dry watercourses, rocky areas, erosion gullies, termite mounds, kangaroos and eucalyptus trees rather than pine forest.

2 memorable Sprints, one in a beautiful university campus and the other at a school on a slope which had multilevel areas and artificial barriers. very tricky and great fun.

A Long distance race, a Middle, a general race (held immediately after the school's Relay) and the Australian Champs Relay completed our carnival.  At the end of all the races we had misting fans at the finish to help cool us off, and at a couple of venues there was a nearby dam that we could swim in before we went back ot our accomodation.
